In Multiplayer, which tactical battle you'd most like to play?

1. Automated space battle - strategy is more important than tactic battles. Fast strategy game is most important! All battles conducted by AI.

2. Space battles limited to one battle - other conducted by AI. Player will play only the most important (chosen by him) battle, against AI or other player.

3. Space battles limited by time. Player will play as much battles as he can start in predetermined time (i.e. 5 minutes). Other battles will be conducted by AI.

4. All space battles should be played by players. AI won't be conducting battles. The most time consuming solution. For player which don't have battle to play, it will be some minutes to think about strategy or make coffee.

Multiplayer Battles

Hello,
Here is another question for our Kickstarter Forum group. We are wondering in our team, how to proceed with multiplayer battles. Some team members say, that all MP battles should be conducted, despite time which they will take (other players will be waiting, or doing only basic things in their empires during this time). Other solutions are: limit MP battles to only one - most important battle for player (you'll be able to chose it from battle list). Limit battles to few minutes. For example you'll have 5 minutes to start new battle. If you manage to make first battle in 3 minutes, you'll be able to start next one. Also there is solution that all MP battles will be automated.

We are wondering what do you think about those MP turn based battles. Which MP tactical battle option seems most interesting for you?

Option 4 is probably the best, perhaps with the option of auto-resolving them & turn limits during the battle itself to ensure it runs along smoothly. If both players agree to auto-resolve then the AI can just handle it, else they fight.

But imagine that... we have for example 20 players in 1 game. All of them have few fights... 2-3 of them have huge empires on war against all other empires. We won't be able to easy optimise queue of battles - some of them will be played simultaneously, but even then.. when some players will finish their turns they will have to wait 15, 20 minutes? to play another (maybe short?) battle. Waiting time will be HUGE.

Probably we will decide to:
SIngle Player: all battles will be auto or manual played - depending on player choose
Multiplayer: Probably we allow all 4 options to be set before game, but we think that option 2 will be the best. Maybe some games will be played with option 1 or 3. Option 4 will be usefull only when 2-3 close friends will be played game online... when they will be able to wait for each other battles.

I would be quite happy with option 2. I think it is the best for both time constraints, player engagement, and narrative reasons. After all, you are a galactic leader, with more important things to do than oversee every little battle (that's what generals are for!) -- but once in a while you might want to oversee a particularly important engagement.

A hush falls over the waiting crowd as your shuttle pulls into the hangar. Feet shuffle nervously. Near the back, a squad leader looks at his friend and whispers, "I think this is gonna be a big one -- the Emperor is here!" Closer to the front, a general has closed his eyes and is praying silently to nobody in particular that, this time, all the exhaust ports have been covered.

For MP, I think option 2 is best.

There may be a new option. You may begin a new battle until there is no player who has nothing to do.

And what if there is no player who is free? Should this player wait? If yes - how long? And what.. if other players will finish their battles just a seconds after this free player will start his new huge battle which will last 15 minutes? This kind of problems, took us to create this "all auto", "all manual" or "only one battle" options.

I do like 2 as the default, but it seems like the current set of options is missing one you might want to consider adding for multiplayer. Especially for 2 player games an option where all human to human player battles are manually played, but all AI ones are auto resolved would seem highly desirable. If its not too much trouble you could also give an option where instead of all AI battles being auto resolved, each player could pick up to 1 AI battle to manually control like in option 2. You probably want to stick up a warning about selecting this option with a bunch of players, or possibly even prevent it from being selected if past a certain player limit, but for two player games its probably going to be a commonly selected option which avoids the tedium of a game where all the AI battles are manually played out as well. Sorry for Offtopic, but is there in the single player a possibility to let calculate fights automatically or to let steer a fight from the computer, even if one has chosen the option "All battles steer by hand" before game start?

We haven't create this feature yet, but it's in our plans so it'll be done. In single player such thing will be possible. In Multiplayer, your options will be limited, but they will depend on selected settings before start of the game.
